How ozone therapy works
What do "three modalities in one" and "seven modalities in one" mean on an ozone sauna?
Three modalities in one describes our Standard and Deluxe ozone saunas: ozone, steam and 12 micron far infrared in a single cabinet. Steam warms the body and opens the skin, ozone is the active gas, and far infrared adds radiant heat. The Red Light cabinet is seven modalities in one.
These studies are listed for reference only. They are not claims about what our saunas do.
What each modality contributes
Steam. Moist heat raises skin temperature and hydrates the outer skin layer, which matters for transdermal delivery — giving something across the skin rather than by mouth or injection. Our studies pages list the steam research, including work on moist heat disturbing the lipid structure of the stratum corneum, and link on to the sources. Transdermal ozone uptake has not been quantified.
Ozone. The active gas, generated on site from concentrated oxygen. Our cabinets run a 500 mg/h generator on a constant 2 l/min oxygen feed, giving about 47 ppm in the sauna’s air volume, adjustable across ten levels in 10% steps.
Far infrared. Specified at 12 micron — a micron is a thousandth of a millimetre, so 12 microns is 12 000 nm. It is absorbed so strongly by water that nearly all its energy lands in the outermost fraction of a millimetre of skin, and it is felt as radiant heat. Our studies pages collect the research on the band and link on to the sources.
Light, on the Red Light model. Near infrared at 850 nm from 380+ LEDs, and visible red, blue and green light from 370+ high-density photobiomodulation LEDs: 750+ LEDs in total. The spectrum runs from 460 nm to 12 000 nm, so nothing it emits is ultraviolet.
Three, or seven
The Standard and Deluxe are three modalities in one; the Red Light is seven. We build them into one sauna because, in our experience, one session is easier to keep to than several separate appointments, and because one unit is more practical for an outlet than several. Each model’s full specification is kept current on its own product page.
