Light and photobiomodulation

Chromotherapy

Chromotherapy is the practice of bathing a person in coloured light to influence mood or wellbeing. In our material the word refers only to the ambient status lighting in the Red Light sauna, and we make no health claim for it.

What it is. A long tradition that assigns meanings to colours — blue for calm, red for vitality, green for balance. Modern versions run coloured LEDs in spas, hot tubs and sensory rooms.

How the word is used here. The Red Light sauna carries secondary status LEDs that change colour to show what the sauna is doing and to give the interior an ambient tone. In our material, chromotherapy means only that ambient lighting, and we make no health claim for it. It is separate hardware from the sauna’s wavelength-specific emitters.

How it differs from photobiomodulation. Photobiomodulation concerns specific wavelengths absorbed by specific molecules at specific doses. Chromotherapy is about colour itself.

Why it matters here

You will see the word on spa menus and hot tub brochures. On the Red Light sauna it means the ambient status lighting that changes colour to show what the sauna is doing, not the wavelength-specific emitters.
