Getting started and your first session
Should I shower after an ozone sauna session?
We recommend not showering immediately after an ozone steam sauna session, and waiting at least 2 hours, because ozone left on the skin continues working for a short time. Showering is mainly advised for people with sensitive skin, or where a rash or burning reaction occurs.
Most people prefer not to shower afterwards. You come out of the sauna feeling clean, and washing removes the ozone still sitting on the skin. The skin is the route the session works through — transdermal delivery, a substance given across the skin rather than by mouth, injection or breathing.
When a shower is the better choice:
- Sensitive skin. A small number of people get a burning sensation or a rash. Heat, humidity and ozone on the skin between them account for it, and washing removes the ozone that is still there.
- A rash has appeared. Showering can reduce the effect. A rash is also a reason to stop and speak to your doctor before booking further sessions, rather than simply turning the ozone down and carrying on.
If you do shower, wait at least 2 hours where you can, keep the water warm rather than cold, and keep warm afterwards. The general rule about avoiding cold shocks straight after a session applies to showers as well.
