Questions (13)
- What happens during an ozone steam sauna session, and what does it feel like?In an ozone steam sauna session you sit inside a warm sauna with your head outside it and the neck opening covered. Steam, far infrared and ozone surround your body for about 30 minutes while you sweat. Most people describe it as a relaxing, humid steam bath.
- What do I wear in an ozone sauna, and do I have to undress? We suggest wearing as little as possible in an ozone steam sauna, or nothing at all, because clothing sits between the ozone and your skin. Only your head is visible once the doors close, so most clients undress fully and sit on a towel. A clinic will give you privacy.
- How long does an ozone sauna session last?A standard ozone steam sauna session lasts about 30 minutes. Allow longer for the whole appointment: the first preheat of the day takes 10 to 20 minutes, and we recommend resting for about 20 minutes afterwards. Budget roughly an hour at an outlet or at home.
- What should I do before an ozone sauna session? Before an ozone steam sauna session, drink plenty of water, avoid a heavy meal, and leave at least 8 hours after your last alcoholic drink. Refrain from vitamin C or supplements for 1 to 2 hours beforehand. If you take any medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether to time your session around it. Never skip, delay or move a prescribed dose to fit a session. Do not book while you are menstruating.
- What should I do straight after an ozone sauna session? After an ozone steam sauna session, keep warm and sit or lie down for about 20 minutes. Drink water, stay off cold floors, avoid a large meal, and leave supplements for 1 to 2 hours.
- Should I shower after an ozone sauna session? We recommend not showering immediately after an ozone steam sauna session, and waiting at least 2 hours, because ozone left on the skin continues working for a short time. Showering is mainly advised for people with sensitive skin, or where a rash or burning reaction occurs.
- Why are there dirty marks on my towel after an ozone sauna session?Marks on the towel after an ozone steam sauna session are residue left behind by heavy sweating, and they are normal. Many clients notice them on a white towel. They are what clients observe, not a measurement or a diagnosis.
- How many ozone sauna sessions should I start with, and how often? We recommend starting with at least 10 ozone steam sauna sessions rather than judging on one or two, at 1 to 3 sessions a week to begin with, building up after 2 to 3 weeks. If you have a health condition, speak to your doctor before you start.
- Should I increase my number of sessions or my ozone output first?Increase the number of ozone steam sauna sessions first, and only then raise ozone output, in 10% steps every 2 weeks. Every Salvagente sauna has a digital display with 10 ozone levels, so each step is one level.
- How soon can I judge whether ozone sauna sessions suit me?We suggest judging ozone steam sauna sessions after at least 10 rather than one or two, and keeping a note of how you sleep and feel.
- How much does an ozone sauna session cost, and where can I book one?The cost of an ozone steam sauna session depends on the country, city and clinic, and each outlet sets its own price. No session is currently covered by any medical aid or scheme. To find an outlet near you, create a free profile on theBooking.site and search your area.
- I have booked an ozone sauna session but something has come up — can I move it or get my money back?A session booked through theBooking.site can usually be moved or rebooked at no extra charge by the outlet, and a no-show can either reschedule or forfeit the payment. Cancelling is different: a 15% cancellation and service fee may be charged, and some countries get a voucher rather than cash back.
- I do not like enclosed spaces and I am a big person — will I fit in an ozone sauna and cope with it?Our ozone saunas take users up to about 2 m (6 ft 5 in) tall, and the Deluxe is rated to 180 kg (about 397 lb). Your head stays outside the sauna and the doors close around your body, so it is far less enclosing than a full cabinet, and you can open the doors and step out at any moment.
