Getting started and your first session
How long does an ozone sauna session last?
A standard ozone steam sauna session lasts about 30 minutes. Allow longer for the whole appointment: the first preheat of the day takes 10 to 20 minutes, and we recommend resting for about 20 minutes afterwards. Budget roughly an hour at an outlet or at home.
Thirty minutes is the figure we use consistently, including in our comparison of ozone steam saunas with mild hyperbaric oxygen chambers, where session length is one of the practical differences: 30 minutes for an ozone sauna against 60 to 90 minutes for mHBOT.
Session length sits alongside preheat, temperature, ozone level and how often sessions repeat. The full session guidance is in the operating manual supplied with each sauna, and the outlet sets the detail.
What fills the rest of the hour:
- Preheating. The first preheat of the day, or after a long gap between sessions, takes 10 to 20 minutes depending on the ambient temperature of the room. Back-to-back sessions need much less.
- Getting in and settled. Allow about 5 minutes to undress, adjust the seat, close the doors and cover the neck.
- The 30-minute session itself.
- Getting out and turning the sauna round. About 5 minutes for a client to get out and dressed, and 5 minutes to wipe down and reset the towels. The sauna is built to run sessions back to back.
- Recovery. Keep warm and sit or lie down for about 20 minutes afterwards.
You can end a session early at any point. To get out, open the doors and step out. To stop the ozone, switch the sauna off at its wall socket once you’re out. There is no benefit in staying in heat you do not enjoy.
