Getting started and your first session
Should I increase my number of sessions or my ozone output first?
Increase the number of ozone steam sauna sessions first, and only then raise ozone output, in 10% steps every 2 weeks. Every Salvagente sauna has a digital display with 10 ozone levels, so each step is one level.
The order matters. Frequency first, concentration second.
Why frequency first. A steady weekly rhythm tells you how you respond to the heat and the session at a modest ozone level. Raise both at once and feel rough, and you cannot tell which change caused it.
How we describe stepping up ozone. Our guidance is 10% increments every 2 weeks, working up towards full output. The digital display gives 10 ozone levels and each level is a 10% step of the 500 mg/h generator output, so one step is one level. The oxygen feed stays constant at 2 l/min, and at full output the sauna’s air volume reaches roughly 47 ppm.
Where that progression comes from. It is the working practice of the operators and owners who run these saunas day to day. The general principle behind stepping up rather than starting high is often described as hormesis, a dose-response pattern in which a small dose of something has the opposite effect to a large one.
Who should actually set it. If you are managing a diagnosed condition, take medication, or are being treated by a practitioner, the level and the progression are theirs to decide, on the basis of your history.
If you react. If a rash or any skin reaction appears, stop and speak to your doctor before resuming. Our own guidance is to reduce the ozone percentage, rest 2 to 3 days, and halve weekly sessions for 3 weeks if it persists — take that to your doctor, and let them decide whether sessions resume at all.
At an outlet, the operator sets the level. Tell them how previous sessions felt so they can adjust.
