Safety, contraindications and screening

Can I drink alcohol or take my medication before an ozone sauna session?

Leave at least 8 hours between your last alcoholic drink and an ozone sauna session, and at least 4 hours after the session before drinking again. If you take any medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether to time your session around it. Never skip, delay or move a prescribed dose to fit a session.

Alcohol. Our stated reasons are that ozone and heat increase blood circulation while alcohol thins the blood, which puts additional strain on the heart, and that drinking close to a session strains the liver and kidneys. Active alcoholism is a separate, absolute exclusion on our contraindication list.

Our timing guidance.

  • Refrain from taking vitamin C or supplements for 1 to 2 hours before or after a session. Vitamin C and ozone neutralise each other.
  • If you take any medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether to time your session around it. Never skip, delay or move a prescribed dose to fit a session.
  • At least 8 hours after your last alcoholic drink, and 4 hours after a session before drinking again.
  • Four days after a chemotherapy session, and tell the treating doctor.

This is practical spacing guidance, not a dosage instruction. Take it to your prescriber and let them decide how sessions fit around your medication, or whether ozone sessions are appropriate at all alongside it. For insulin and other medicines where timing is tied to meals or to blood glucose, that conversation is essential.

Why the spacing exists. Ozone is a strong oxidant, and the concern is straightforward chemistry between an oxidant and whatever else is in the body at the time. Vitamin C and ozone neutralising each other is the clearest example.

None of this replaces your prescriber’s instructions.
