Evidence and research
What are near infrared and far infrared, and where can I read the research?
Near infrared sits at around 810 to 850 nanometres and reaches deeper than visible light; far infrared is longer again and is felt as radiant heat. Our near infrared and far infrared studies pages list the research and link each entry through to its source.
These studies are listed for reference only. They are not claims about what our saunas do.
Near infrared (NIR), 810 to 850 nm
Near infrared is the band closest to visible red, roughly 780 to 1,400 nm. It passes several millimetres into tissue rather than stopping at the surface.
Our Red Light model uses 850 nm near infrared from 380+ LEDs. Your head stays outside the sauna, and the lights switch off when the doors open.
Far infrared (FIR), up to 12,000 nm
Far infrared is longer-wavelength infrared, absorbed so strongly by water that nearly all its energy lands in the outer fraction of a millimetre of skin — radiant heat that warms you directly rather than the air. Every model in the range uses 12 micron far infrared, which is 12,000 nm.
Where to read the research
Our studies pages list published papers on near infrared and far infrared, with a link to each source.
Infrared sessions are wellness sessions, not a treatment for any condition. If you have a health concern, speak to your doctor.
