Why buy a hard-shell ozone sauna cabinet rather than a fabric tent?

We build hard-shell fibreglass cabinets rather than fabric tents, and we do not supply a tent sauna. Ozone is a strong oxidant that degrades tent fabric over time, and a folding fabric frame cannot carry integrated controls, adjustable seating, far infrared or a properly sealed neck opening.

Fabric tent saunas are sold as a low-cost way into ozone therapy. We do not supply one, and the reasons are worth understanding.

The material. Ozone is a powerful oxidant — a substance that strips electrons from whatever it meets — and that is exactly what it does to fabric. Ozone-resistant materials are chosen for the opposite property: glass, PTFE, silicone and 304/316 stainless steel survive prolonged ozone contact. Tent fabric does not, so a tent deteriorates with extended ozone use in a way a moulded fibreglass shell does not. An ozone-resistant inner coating slows that down; it does not stop it.

The engineering. A folding frame limits what can be built into the enclosure. A hard shell can carry:

  • a moulded, sealed neck opening that keeps your head outside and out of the ozone
  • an adjustable seat at several heights, so users of different sizes sit at the right level
  • a far infrared element and its wiring, on the models that have one
  • integrated hardware and software regulating steam temperature, with a digital display and 10 ozone levels
  • a dual skin that holds heat evenly rather than losing it through a single fabric wall

What a hard-shell sauna looks like. Our Standard ozone sauna is 1180 mm high × 680 mm wide (1360 mm with the doors open) × 1200 mm long, 80 kg, with a 1500 W element, 12 micron far infrared, automatic temperature control, four adjustable seat levels, four lockable castors and a digital display, rated to 120 kg user weight. It runs a 500 mg/h ozone generator on a constant 2 l/min oxygen feed, giving about 47 ppm across the air volume inside the sauna.

Moving it. A tent packs down for travel; a hard-shell sauna rolls on castors from room to room. For anything used repeatedly, and for anything commercial, the durability, sealing and controls of a hard shell are what you are paying for.
