Getting started and your first session

What should I do before an ozone sauna session?

Before an ozone steam sauna session, drink plenty of water, avoid a heavy meal, and leave at least 8 hours after your last alcoholic drink. Refrain from vitamin C or supplements for 1 to 2 hours beforehand. If you take any medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether to time your session around it. Never skip, delay or move a prescribed dose to fit a session. Do not book while you are menstruating.

Hydration. Our baseline is 1 to 1.5 litres of water daily, with extra before and after a session. You need to be hydrated enough to break a sweat.

Our timing guidance.

  • No vitamin C or supplements for 1 to 2 hours before a session, or for 1 to 2 hours after. Vitamin C and ozone neutralise each other.
  • If you take any medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether to time your session around it. Never skip, delay or move a prescribed dose to fit a session. There is more on this in Can I drink alcohol or take my medication before an ozone sauna session? in the safety section.
  • At least 8 hours after your last alcoholic drink.
  • At least 4 days after a chemotherapy session, and we advise against ozone therapy within 2 to 3 months of major surgery.

Screening. Ozone sauna sessions are not for everyone. We list pregnancy, menstruation, active bleeding from any site, platelet disorders such as haemophilia, thrombosis, active hyperthyroidism, heart conditions and pacemakers, and recent heart attack or stroke as reasons not to proceed, or to seek medical advice first. If you are having your period, wait until it has finished and book after that. Check who should not use an ozone sauna before you book. Be open with the person running your session about your health history; they need it to choose a safe temperature and ozone level.
