Servicing, faults and parts

There is suddenly a lot of steam escaping from my ozone sauna. Is something broken?

A little steam escaping from an ozone sauna is normal, and it is more visible in cold weather as it condenses on the cool outside surface. A sudden increase usually means the rubber seals along the bottom of the doors have been kicked out of place. Press them back without glue.

Normal versus not normal

Some steam always escapes around the door line and the neck opening, and a gradual seasonal change is not a fault. A sudden, obvious increase from one session to the next almost always has a mechanical cause.

The usual cause

The rubber seals along the bottom of the doors get knocked out of position when someone kicks them on the way out of the sauna. Once one is displaced, the doors no longer seal along their full length and steam escapes at the bottom.

The fix: re-affix the rubbers by hand, pressing them back into position. Do not use glue.

Expect the rubbers to be a wear item. Ozone attacks most elastomers, and only ozone-resistant materials — stainless steel, glass, PTFE — are unaffected by long exposure. A rubber that has gone hard, chalky or cracked is perished rather than displaced, and needs replacing. If your sauna came with a spare-parts set, check it before ordering.

The Red Light model closes magnetically on strapless engineered hinges. Treat a sudden change in steam escape there as a support call rather than something to adjust yourself.

Other things to check

  • Is the water bottle at the back seated correctly?
  • Are the doors closing fully, with nothing — a towel, a robe tie — trapped in the seal?
  • Is the neck opening covered properly during the session? An uncovered neck opening lets steam and ozone out of the top of the sauna.

Why it matters

Steam escaping is not only a comfort issue: the sauna runs at a controlled temperature and ozone concentration, and leaks work against both. It also puts more moisture into the room, worth watching where the sauna shares a room with the oxygen concentrator.

When to call us

If a seal is torn, perished or missing, or the doors still will not seal after the rubbers are reseated, contact us for a replacement seal rather than improvising with adhesive or tape.
