What are the consumables on an ozone sauna, and how often do they need replacing?

The running costs

For South African buyers we cost water and electricity at R20 per session. That is the day-to-day consumable cost of running the sauna; it does not include parts, servicing or finance.

What you actually buy again

• Water. Verified distilled water, and nothing else. One bottle covers four to eight sessions, depending on the temperature you run — a hotter sauna makes more steam and uses more water. Because distilled water leaves nothing behind, there is no descaling cost.
• Oxygen concentrator filters. Cleaned or replaced depending on use, more often if the concentrator runs constantly, which it will in a busy clinic. Separately from the dust filters, the concentrator works by cycling air through a molecular sieve — a bed of granules whose pores hold nitrogen back and let oxygen through — and sieve beds degrade over the machine’s life. Average concentrator lifecycle is 15,000 hours.
• Oxygen tubing. Tubing is supplied with the concentrator, and more can be quoted for.
• Wear parts. Door bottom seals and similar rubber components are replaced when they fail rather than on a schedule.

Longer-term replacement

For budgeting beyond consumables, the average lifecycles are more than 3,500 hours for the ozone generator, 15,000 hours for the concentrator and 30,000 hours for the LEDs on the Red Light model. At an hour a session, that is a long horizon for most outlets.

Spare parts included at purchase

Orders delivered outside South Africa include a complimentary spare-parts set, listed on your invoice, so small repairs need not wait for freight. South African orders do not include the set; we supply warranty parts directly. If your order included the set, check it against your invoice when the sauna arrives, because the part you need may already be on your shelf.
